Springfield teen arrested after car chase
An 18-year-old Springfield teen was arrested Friday morning after a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle.
Officers tried to pull over Ricky E. Meyer @@http://www.kmtr.com/news/local/story/Stop-sign-stops-high-speed-chase/cW-VbdkPxU-rC1NlfLxvyw.cspx@@but he sped off in a stolen car. After police chased him for a while, Meyer crashed into a stop sign, got out of his car and ran from the cops by foot, according to KMTR.
Officers informed community members around Q Street and 17th Avenue to remain in their homes while they looked for Meyer.
A tip from one of Meyer’s relatives lead police to Meyer’s home where police arrested him around 1 a.m. on Friday.
Ninkasi Brewing Company looks to expand in the future
Eugene brewery Ninkasi@@http://www.ninkasibrewing.com/@@ took the first steps of expanding by breaking ground for two new facilities on Thursday.
The facilities Ninkasi has now can produce about 95,000 barrels annually, but with the new facilities owners are predicting up to 350,000 barrels annually, according to KVAL.
After expansion Ninkasi will try to get their beer into northern and central California stores.
Election ballots mailed out
Lane County Elections mailed out ballots Friday for the Nov. 6 general election.
Voters will receive ballots from Friday, Oct. 19 through Tuesday, Oct. 23.
According to KEZI, voters who do not receive a ballot by Nov. 6 should contact Lane County Elections at 541-682-4234@@http://www.lanecounty.org/Departments/MS/CountyClerk/Elections/Pages/default.aspx@@ to see if their registration card is up to date.
Corvallis man charged with bigamy
Investigators found that a Corvallis man had had two June weddings within three years and charged him with bigamy.
Officials say that charge is rare and that bigamy is usually unintentional because somebody thinks a divorce has been made final.
In this incident Michael Wayne Haliburton II @@see link@@checked the “single” box on a marriage license application while being married to another woman, according to The Register-Guard. A few months after Haliburton completed the application, a woman who married Haliburton in 2009 called his probation officer for his address to have divorce papers served.
Haliburton pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
Developer wants to build student cottages
Landmark Properties,@@http://www.landmark-properties.com/who/overview.php@@ a Georgia-based student housing developer, has agreed to buy 22 acres on Moon Mountain Drive in southeast Eugene and plans to build “student cottages” within the next three years.
The area is zoned for low-density residential development with a maximum density of 14 units per acre, according to The Register-Guard.
The project would include a club house, study rooms, computer labs, a movie theater and a private shuttle system to bus students to and from classes.
While there is no official or estimated construction time, the company’s president and CEO hopes to have the cottages open by either fall of 2014 or 2015. @@checked all links@@
