Mayor Kitty Piercy, City Council extend Eugene Exclusion Zone
KMTR has reported that Mayor Piercy was the deciding vote Monday night after a council session regarding the Eugene Exclusion Zone — an area in downtown Eugene.
Currently, the Exclusion Zone rules that those who have serious crimes such as violence, drug charges or sex crimes may not enter.
The Exclusion Zone will expire on Nov. 30, 2013 as a more permanent solution will be discussed and eventually implemented.
Eugene woman responsible for two alcohol-related crashes in two nights
Christina Ozbun, 42, was released from jail Monday after being arraigned on charges stemming from a Saturday night incident, according to The Register-Guard.
Ozbun’s vehicle rolled backward into a Eugene Police Department patrol car after she was pulled over for driving erratically. The Register-Guard has reported that alcohol was involved.
The night prior, officers responded to an alcohol-related incident involving Ozbun in which a Toyota Corolla smashed through a gate and into a garage near Highway 99.
Eugene residents partake in coal train debate
City councilors listened to Eugene residents voice their concerns over the proposed coal train route through Eugene Monday evening, according to The Register-Guard.
The proposed route would run through Eugene to Coos Bay, where shipping terminals would service roughly 150 million tons of coal shipments to Asia annually.
Lane County sees rise in voter registration
KEZI has reported that Lane County has registered 3,000 new voters last week alone.
Officials say the influx is probably due to the presidential election year.
