Good ol’ fall is here … or is it? With Oregon’s bi-polar weather it’s not quite sweater weather yet. Don’t ditch those summer dresses just yet. With a roundup of “Do”s and “Don’t”s that we have put together, it will help you turn your summer outfits into cool fall looks.
There are certainly a handful of summer items that you could reuse for fall outfits. There is really no need for a huge shopping spree. Take a step back and look at your closet; your light summer sweaters can come in handy when you need layering and texture.
DO: Save your summer cardigans. You don’t want to double layer with TWO thick sweaters. It’s nice to have a lightweight cardigan under that big coat. It also makes it easier when you are entering a heated building after walking out in the cold; it makes transiting from cold environments to hot environments much easier.
DO: Build layers around the same color scheme. Let’s hold onto your sundress and use it to layer with leggings, tights or sweaters paired with boots. You could add a few more similar accessories in color for a similar look.
DON’T: Keep your jean shorts or skirts around. They don’t look good with tights and are strictly for the spring and summer.
DO: Start wearing leather. It’ll warm your sundress right up. An edgy jacket paired with a splash of color will go a long way.
DON’T: Bring out the winter/raincoats quite yet, maybe a leather jacket or light windbreaker. It is not weather appropriate to bring out the Michelin Man jackets. Meanwhile stick to the leather jacket or a cardigan.
DO: Keep your grandpa sweaters around to warm up outfits with jeans or sundresses. They will come in handy for layering or to add a comfy feel to a dressed up outfit.
The fall season is about layering and making simple pieces/random pieces fit together to complete a full outfit.
