State plans elevated pedestrian/bike path connecting Eugene to Glenwood
Officials hope it will provide a more practical connection between Eugene and Glenwood, although what will be on the Glenwood end is still undetermined.
Troutdale teen hero
Troutdale, Ore., teenager Marcos Ugarte, 14, rescued a boy from a fire that broke out in his home Monday night, NBC News reports.
Ugarte used a ladder to climb into the burning house to rescue 8-year-old Cody Ma. Cody’s father, Alex Ma, tried previously to get upstairs to rescue Cody but couldn’t reach him through the smoke.
Ma’s family made it out safely but Cody locked himself in a room after the fire started.
Ugarte grabbed a ladder and climbed to the second floor, punched out the screen and grabbed the boy.
Site of 1855 Oregon Native American battle found
Archaeologists found evidence in Southern Oregon that confirms the site of the 1855 Battle of Hungry Hill, reports the Register-Guard.
The site is west of I-5, between Glendale and Sunny Valley.
Salem man sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting police officer
Matthew Sean Saner, 30, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison after shooting a Salem police officer on Commercial Street. Saner tried to rob a Texaco convenience store then robbed a FedEx Office and a customer’s wallet, according to the Statesmen Journal; as he ran away from the FedEx, he stopped and fired a rifle at Salem Police Officer Oscar Zambrano.
Zambrano@@names checked@@ shot Saner several times, wounding him before taking him into custody.
Saner pleaded no contest to a charge of attempted aggravated murder and guilty to two counts of robbery and three counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
