According to Seth San Fillipo, owner of Urban Lumber Company, three to four billion board-feet of lumber are thrown out every year in the United States, which accounts for one-third of the nation’s green waste. To give some perspective, approximately 10,000 board-feet of lumber can fit on an 18-wheel trailer truck, which means every year 300,000-400,000 trucks worth of urban lumber go unused. Urban Lumber company aims to divert some of this waste from going to the landfill or burn-pile by producing furniture from urban trees.
