Dr. Michael Gottfredson, the finalist to be the next University president, is set to arrive on campus Tuesday afternoon. But what do we really know about him, anyway?
Well, he is the executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Irvine. Before that, he was vice president for undergraduate education and a professor of management and policy, law, sociology, and psychology at the University of Arizona.
He wrote a book, “A General Theory of Crime,” that has four stars on Amazon.com. One reviewer called it “the best book on crime and criminals in the 20th century.” Another reviewer said to start reading Michel Foucault’s “Discipline and Punish” first and then “move on to more informed and critical analyses of deviance and crime” to get a better perspective of criminal theory.
In February, Gottfredson was awarded the Extraordinarius award by the UC Irvine Alumni Association for his role in encouraging campus growth while the school was dealing with budget cuts.
Apparently, he’s a “glass-half-full kind of guy.”
He doesn’t yet have his own Wikipedia page but his self-control theory of crime does.
More information to come.
