Recently the Emerald has explored some previously unreported problems with the firms involved in UO President Dave Frohnmayer’s arena replacement proposal. Rachel Bachman of the Oregonian has also explored the mysterious and suspicious bidding process University administrators are hoping will “fast track” the project.
City Councilor Alan Zelenka has used his position to cry wolf over global warming, sustainability and neighborhood empowerment. However, he has failed to preside over any hearing relating to the immense UO arena proposal. He should resign.
Ten students recently traveled to Salem to testify against Frohnmayer’s and Nike’s risky and secretive proposal. Now the smartgrowthing “partners” in the city of Eugene planning staff are busy eliminating regulations designed to protect the Fairmount neighborhood from destructive planning. Additionally, the city is exploring financial help for the UO athletic department to replace Civic Stadium with a new baseball field.
Finally there is our global-warming-fraud governor, who should resign along with Councilor Zelenka. Gov. Kulongoski received $187,000 from Nike, which has resulted in his high profile competitive cheerleading and this pork-barrel spending spree.
