Three Ducks claimed the honor of Pacific-10 Conference’s athletes of the week for their performances last weekend. Andrew Wheating, Nicole Blood and Rachel Yurkovich shared the award for their marks in the inaugural Oregon Relays.
Wheating was the first Vermont native to run the mile in under four minutes. He crossed the line in 3 minutes, 58.16 seconds, winning the race that also featured Oregon’s Galen Rupp, who is redshirting this season in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Trials. It was also the 11th fastest mile time in Oregon history.
Blood’s time of 4:18.55 in the 1,500 meter was the fastest time in the Pac-10 this season. Her time ranks sixth nationally and is the seventh-best in Oregon history. Blood also has the league’s best time in the 5,000 meters (15:43.82).
Yurkovich broke her own Pac-10 and Oregon javelin records with a throw of 191 feet, 1 inch to win the event last Friday. It is the best mark in the NCAA this season.
