Dead week is definitely one of the most stressful times of every quarter. Many students spend exorbitant amounts of time with their noses in a book or their eyes transfixed on their laptop screens in the hurried rush to cram for finals.
A lot of students may be in dire need of a study break from their massive amounts of group projects, oral presentations and test preparations.
Fortunately for us, the School of Music and Dance is providing everyone with a large array of performances early in the week that can take us away from our studying woes or at the very least provide a credible procrastination excuse.
Blaring horns start off the week on Monday night with a bang as the UO brass ensemble will have its end-of-the-year performance, “All That Brass,” at 8:15 p.m. in Beall Hall.
Directed by Jeffrey Williams and Michael Grose, the ensemble will provide a set including numbers by both French and Italian composers.
Tickets are available at the door and are $7 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.
Cozmic Pizza, located at 199 W. 8th Avenue, is the place to be on Tuesday night as jazz legend Tom Varner is making his first ever trip to Oregon for a performance after an exclusive workshop happening on campus earlier in the day.
Starting at 8 p.m., this amazing French horn player from Seattle known for breaking new ground in the jazz world with his highly creative arrangements will blow you away along with guest jazz musicians Josh Tower, Idit Shner and Ryan Biesack.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students. The low price should be extra incentive for students to see a veritable living jazz legend who is changing the face of the genre as it is now known.
Come join the UO Department of Dance for their Dance Quarterly, where you will witness the delicate grace, strong emotion and extreme precision involved in the art of dance.
The performance will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, in the Dougherty Dance Theatre located on the third floor of the Gerlinger Annex.
For one of their final live displays of the year, the UO Dance department will feature an informal showing of dance composition, improvisation and repertory work for the entire University community to enjoy.
Not only is this display of dance excellence free, but it will include quarter project performances by undergraduate and graduate dance students alike.
