2The Oregon wrestling team has wrapped up its last home dual meet and will finish its regular season today against Portland State at 7 p.m.
Facing Oregon State last Friday at McArthur Court, the Ducks lost 32-7. Ranked seniors Joey Bracamonte and Shane Webster were the lone Ducks to win against what Oregon coach Chuck Kearney called a “solid” Beaver team. Oregon lost eight of 10 matches against Oregon State.
The Beavers improved on a 20-18 defeat of the Ducks Dec. 9 victory with a decisive win away from Corvallis.
At 125 pounds, Ryan Dunn lost 9-2 to the Beavers’ Eric Stevenson, who scored three takedowns in the first period against Dunn.
Oregon’s Beau Malia was pinned in the first period by 133-pound Bobby Pfennings. Kearney has used the 125-pound redshirt freshman at 133 instead of Justin Pearch, who has struggled with a knee injury since the middle of January when he tweaked it in practice. Dunn and Malia are 4-3 in the junior’s absence.
In his last dual at Mac Court, senior Skyler Woods lost against Oregon State’s Kyle
Larson. Woods managed to keep it close in the first round, but dropped the match 8-3 as the Ducks fell behind 12-0 in the team score. Woods can match his win output from his first three seasons by adding a win against Portland State.
Tony Hook, ranked 16th, scored a takedown against Jeremy McLaughlin two minutes into the match. McLaughlin has a record of 2-7 while filling in for Cyle Hartzell.
The first team points Oregon scored were at 165 pounds, when All-American Joey Bracamonte controlled his match against Anthony Weber. Bracamonte won 9-3 and scored three points for the Ducks. Bracamonte showed mobility on his knee, which has hampered him throughout the season.
Chet McBee also wrestled his final dual in Eugene. , McBee lost his match against No. 18 Jeremy Larson, 24-10. After the first period neither wrestler was able to score. However, Larson proceeded to score six takedowns in the second period en route to his rout of the 174-pound McBee.
Oregon’s 184-pound All-American was the only other Duck to score points for the team. Webster began the onslaught against Kressler by scoring his first takedown seven seconds into the match. He recorded 11 more takedowns and downed Bressler with a technical fall with 19 seconds left in the match .
Oregon’s defending Pacific-10 Conference champion has 31 wins this season, a team best. Webster is one win away from 98 career victories, which would tie him second overall in school history.
“He is on track,” Kearney said. “He’s doing the things he needs to do, and we’ve got some things that we are going to put into his training that will help him with a national championship.”
Oregon State’s Dan Pitsch found success against Shaun Dee as he scored a major decision 12-2. Dee is 13-8 on the season.
Chris Dearmon lost to No. 17 Ty Watterson, 5-2. Dearmon kept the match close early with a 3-2 score at the end of the first period, but was unable to pull off the upset for the Ducks.
The Ducks will take a look at what went on during the dual and work to eliminate their faults this week, according to Kearney. The final regular season meet is tonight in Salem against Portland State, which the Ducks beat 27-18 Jan. 13th.
The dual is the last match for Oregon before the Pac-10 tournament, which takes place Feb. 26-27.
