The Student Senate unanimously selected summer President Sara Hamilton as its leader for the school year Wednesday night.
Senators elected Jonathan Rosenberg vice president and Oscar Guerra treasurer. The ombudsman position election was postponed until next week’s meeting to allow Sen. Natalie Kinsey an opportunity to run against Sen. Jennifer Lleras.
The Senate also adopted an outreach program that will require senators to invite programs to learn the ropes of Senate and
the ASUO.
ASUO Vice President Juliana Guzman encouraged the move.
“People feel really intimidated when they come in here, and we’re just students, too,” she said.
“Senate has a reputation of being unapproachable.”
Senator Jacob Daniels said he thought few groups would actually respond, suggesting as much as 90 percent of groups would not respond to an e-mail.
Although Hamilton said the resolution is only a “symbolic” promise, the motion to adopt passed by a unanimous vote.
The Senate also voted to approve the Executive’s nomination of Dante Vivanco for the position of elections coordinator.
