Can I ask a simple question: What the heck is going on in Senator Nate Gulley’s head? Since when do senators show such a lack of decency when it comes to their work on the ASUO Senate and working with student groups?
I am absolutely amazed that Senator Gulley stated that “Ted Niedermeyer can kiss my ass.” Last time I checked, we elected senators to represent all students, not just the ones they agreed with. Mr. Niedermeyer is a respected student leader on campus, has worked hard to ensure fairness in the ASUO process and, wait – did I mention he is the head of an ASUO Program?
I am sure that if a senator stated that a program leader from the MCC, Non-Traditional Student Union, or other prominent student group on campus could “kiss their ass,” Gulley would be the first to criticize and demand an apology from that senator. So why is Gulley flapping his jaw? Maybe it’s ignorance or arrogance, but most likely it’s a combination of both.
Students don’t elect senators to be viewpoint un-neutral, to cry and then to personally attack and demean other student leaders for doing their jobs. A few senators have given the ASUO a black eye, showing personal bias run amuck and that there is no civility or mutual respect for others in the ASUO.
Lastly, I pray that the Oregon Commentator does not have a special request going in front of the senate in the near future. The ASUO Senate and Con Court have shown that they do not know the concept of personal biases. It is time for some senators, starting with Gulley, to check their immaturity, personal biases and lack of respect at the door and get back to working for students.
To Gulley: Grow up, or get out! The students both in the ASUO and outside of it do not have time for your high-school-bordering-on-middle- school antics. If you cannot control what comes out of your mouth, I have a roll of duct tape you can utilize to fix that problem.
