We think it is very disturbing that Sara Hamilton and Athan Papailiou tout the fact they are the only ASUO candidates to be endorsed by any campus media. By this they must mean the Oregon Commentator and the Oregon Daily Emerald. Let us take a closer look into these two endorsements: Everyone knows that the Commentator is the UO’s most conservative student publication; no surprise then that the Commentator would endorse the conservative ticket (Sara and Athan) for ASUO executive. Why, one might ask, would the supposedly unbiased Oregon Daily Emerald ever throw their support behind one candidate, unless it was in the best interest of the University as a whole?
We would like to submit that the Emerald has endorsed Sara and Athan from the very beginning of this campaign, not because they are the best candidates for the position, but rather because the editor in chief of the Emerald is none other than Athan’s frat brother! That’s right, Ryan Knutson shares a wall with Athan at Sigma Chi! Obviously he is going to endorse his frat brother, and if that is not a conflict of interest, then we don’t know what is. We have decided to throw our support behind Emily and San and the PAC-8 because they are candidates who truly represent the interests of all the students on this campus, not just certain Greek houses. Ryan Knutson: please take an ethics class next term. We hear Philosophy 102 is quite good.
