Note: This article has been corrected from its initial online publication. Nicole Tomlin was incorrectly reported by the ASUO as having passed through the primaries, however, it was actually Samantha Brotman who moved on. This error has been corrected.

Sara Hamilton and Emily McLain moved through the primaries today and will go head-to-head next week for the executive seat.
Hamilton and running-mate Athan Papailiou were declared the winners of the ASUO primary election Friday night and will move on to next week’s general election against McLain and running-mate Chii-San SunOwen.
Hamilton and Papailiou received 1108 votes to McLain and SunOwen’s 969.
“I am absolutely ecstatic,” McLain said after learning of the results.
She said that she will work even harder next week and will be out on the streets earlier in the morning and later in the evening to talk to students about the issues that matter to them.
Papailiou said he and Hamilton will continue to work hard to represent students, as well as fight for change within the ASUO.
“Sara and I are very proud that so many students turned out to have their voices heard in this election,” he said.”
Ari Lesser and Phil Wood, who ran on a platform of sustainability and said they did not use any paper for their campaign, came in third.
“We did the best we could,” Lesser said.
Other candidates who made it through to the general election said they were excited to have the chance to work for positive change on campus.
Oscar Guerra, who is running for EMU Board Senate Seat 4, said he hopes there will be more turnout during the general election.

The winners of the primary elections, who will move on to next week’s general election are listed below (in no particular ranking). If there is only one name listed for a position, it means the candidate earned more than 50 percent of the vote, making him or her the automatic winner of the entire election. If there is more than one seat available for a position, there are more than two candidates moving on to the general election.
