Pollution, coastal development, fish farming and over-fishing have left Oregon’s ocean ecosystems in grave danger, but it’s not too late to save them, according to the documentary “Common Ground: Oregon’s Ocean.” The 30-minute documentary will be presented by the Environmental Studies Program on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in 182 Lillis, followed by a discussion.
“Common Ground” was produced by Oregon-based Green Fire Productions and, according to the company’s Web site, presents solutions for the protection and restoration of Oregon’s marine habitat that both scientists and fishermen support.
Rick Dancer, president of the City Club of Eugene and KEZI news anchor, will moderate the discussion after the presentation in which audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions. The panelists include Leesa Cobb of the Port Orford Ocean Resource Team, Mike Graybill, manager of the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, Dr. Selina Heppel of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State University, Onno Husing Director of the Oregon Coastal Zone Management Association, and Carolyn Waldron, director of Oregon Ocean.
