Umpqua Community College forward Kristi Fallin signed a letter of intent to play for the Oregon women’s basketball team.
Fallin played two seasons with the Riverhawks out of Roseburg High School in Roseburg, Ore. She is the reigning Northwest Athletic Association of Community College Southern Region Player of the Year, averaging 23.0 points per game and leading the Riverhawks to third place in the NWAACC championship with a 29-3 record.
“Kristi has the ability to put the ball in the basket,” Oregon head coach Paul Westhead said in a media release. “Our desire to increase our offensive scoring next season will make her a good fit for our program.”
Fallin, Westhead’s first recruit as Oregon head coach, certainly fits that bill. Her 208 career three-pointers are the most ever by a Riverhawk player, and she shot 48.9 percent overall last season, including 44.9 percent from three-point range.
Oregon has one other letter of intent for this year’s recruiting class, from Aliyah Green of Jefferson High School in Portland. Pending any other roster changes, both would be the only native Oregonians on the Duck roster.
Fallin’s commitment may signal the formal departure of forward Ellie Manou, who left the team a month ago and returned to Australia. Manou, who averaged 8.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last year, was given the option to return to the team by Westhead, but next year’s roster stands at 13 players including commitments without her.
