One of the top distance-running recruits in the nation has verbally committed to the Ducks and announced her intention to sign her letter of intent for Oregon today.
Jordan Hasay, the current national high school record holder in the 1,500-meter dash, picked the Ducks over Arizona State, Arizona, Stanford and Washington at a press conference yesterday afternoon. Hasay, a native of Arroyo Grande, Calif., competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials at Hayward Field in August, qualifying for the final in the women’s 1,500m, where she finished 10th.
Hasay, a two-time Foot Locker National Cross Country Champion, also competed at the World Junior Championships in August, where she finished fourth in the 1,500m.
Oregon’s Ashton Eaton has been named Athlete of the Week by USA Track & Field after setting the second-best-ever mark in the heptathlon at a men’s indoor event Saturday. Eaton’s 6,174 points scored at the UW Indoor Invitational is the most in school history and is beaten only by Texas’ Trey Hardee, who scored 6,208 in 2006. Eaton won six of the seven heptathlon events.
