The No. 3 seed Oregon Ducks defeated the No. 15 Baylor Bears 7-4 to stay alive in the Women’s College World Series. They will face LSU in another elimination game at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ducks didn’t make it easy on themselves. Oregon pitcher Megan Kleist entered the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh with no outs.
Two strikeouts and one ground out later, the Ducks snapped their four game WCWS losing streak.
Oregon used a two-run seventh inning to extend its lead to three entering the bottom half of the inning. Oregon had the bases loaded when Mia Camuso doubled to left field, driving in Nikki Udria and Alexis Mack.
The game started with Oregon taking a 5-0 lead through 4.5 innings. In the fourth inning, Camuso doubled and drove in Udria and Mack to take a 4-0 lead. Mack would be responsible for another run in the fifth inning to give the Ducks their 5-0 lead.
Baylor cut the lead to one in the fifth. The four-run, three-hit inning was aided by an Oregon error. The Bears finally got to pitcher Miranda Elish, who was relieved by fellow freshman Maggie Balint.
Elish would finish the game five innings pitched, allowing three hits and four runs.
Camuso was the offensive star of the game. Her four RBIs were crucial as the Ducks broke the offensive slump that plagues them in the WCWS.
Oregon still faces a win or go home game against LSU, which if the Ducks win will advance them to play Oklahoma.
