As the regular season approaches its end, the No. 6 men’s golf team continues to back up its high ranking.
The Ducks won the U.S. Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif., on Tuesday, finishing with a total score of 839 (one-under par). Oregon was the only team to finish below par for the tournament, and placed ahead of Pacific-10 Conference rivals No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 Washington, No. 4 UCLA, and No. 12 Arizona State.
Perhaps even more impressive, sophomore Daniel Miernicki took first place individually with a final score of 8 under par. After shooting an even-par 70 in the first round, Miernicki improved over the tournament, posting a 2-under 68 and a 6-under 64 in the second and final rounds.
Behind Miernicki was fellow sophomore Eugene Wong, who tied for 11th place with a 209 (1 under par). Sophomore Andrew Vijarro, meanwhile, finished with a score of 212 (2 over par) and tied for 19th place while junior Jack Dukeminier placed 42nd.
Following close behind Oregon in the final team standings were San Diego State and No. 3 Washington. The top five was capped off with three more Pac-10 teams: No. 24 Oregon State in fourth place and No. 4 UCLA and No. 14 USC tying for fifth place.
