Voodoo Doughnut, the kooky pastry shop commonly associated with the stranger side of Portland, is on its way to Eugene, according to the new site’s realtor, Todd Amacher.
“All they have left is crossing ‘Ts’ and dotting ‘Is’,” said Amacher, a real estate broker for Portland-based Elliott Associates.
Voodoo’s owners, Kenneth Pogson and Tres Shannon, are excited at the prospect of reaching a new customer base.
“Eugene is a natural choice — once it rang in our ear from the great spirit beyond,” said Pogson, colloquially called “Cat Daddy” around the doughnut shop.
Featured on Travel Channel’s “Man vs. Food” and CBS’s “The Amazing Race,” Voodoo has reached iconic status in food-friendly Portland for its colorful, alternative pastry menu.
The restaurant features doughnuts such as the Triple Chocolate Penetration, topped with chocolate glaze and Cocoa Puffs, and the Prickly Pickle, baked with pickle juice to conjure a distinctive sweet and sour aftertaste.
The owners say Voodoo’s charm won’t be diluted by a move down south.
“I think on a third location we can continue to keep Voodoo Voodoo,” Shannon said.
The new location will adapt to its proximity to the University by offering pastries to stoke the preconceived passions of Oregon students. Eugene customers can expect to see Duck and Beaver-themed pastries in stock upon Voodoo’s arrival.
“The college themes will be extremely easy,” Pogson said. “(There will be) voodoo dolls in Duck and Beaver colors during the Civil War.”
The location of the new Voodoo is still shrouded in mystery. The company will keep specific details secret until a press conference tentatively scheduled for early spring.
