Another busy weekend for the men’s and women’s tennis teams was largely successful, as the two teams combined to win four of their five dual matches.
The only loss came for the women in Albuquerque, N. M., on Saturday against Colorado.
It was an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise positive trip for the women. The team simply could not find a rhythm against the Buffaloes, falling 7-0 and failing to win a match in singles or doubles play.
Friday’s results against New Mexico were on the opposite end of the spectrum. The Ducks swept through the Lobos 7-0, winning all of their singles and doubles matches. None of the singles matches went past the minimum of two sets, further illustrating the dominance of the women on that day.
The men, meanwhile, were similarly dominant throughout the weekend. The team took advantage of home court, defeating Eastern Washington, Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga without much trouble.
The Eastern Washington win was particularly noteworthy, as the Ducks swept both singles and doubles play. Oregon’s hot streak continued the next day against St. Mary’s in a 6-1 win. The Ducks won the doubles point convincingly, and lost only one singles match. Senior Alex Cornelissen fell in a hard-fought battle with junior Lucas Tirelli, the final score reading 6-3, 4-6, 13-11.
Later on Saturday, the men capped off the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Gonzaga. After sweeping the doubles point, the Ducks won all but two singles matches and earned another quality win.The men have now won seven straight dual matches.
