On the heels of a standout performance in last weekend’s Oregon Invitational Tournament, Oregon forward Amanda Johnson earned Pacific-10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the week of Nov. 22-28, the league announced Monday.
Johnson averaged 20.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in the three games of the Oregon Invitational and helped lead the Ducks to a tournament title. She won the Most Valuable Player award for her efforts.
In the Ducks’ Oregon Invitational opener, a blowout victory over Idaho, Johnson scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. In the team’s second game, a tough 82-78 loss to Cal State Bakersfield, Johnson did everything in her power to will the Ducks to a victory, notching 29 points and 14 rebounds. In the tournament finale, a 50-point victory over Sacramento State, Johnson scored 13 points and had eight rebounds in only 17 minutes of action.
Johnson also performed admirably in an 83-79 victory over Portland earlier in the week, scoring 20 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
This marks the second time Johnson has garnered Player of the Week honors in her Oregon career — she also earned the award in December 2009. It’s the 36th time in Oregon program history that a Duck has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week.
Johnson and the Ducks return to action this Friday when they travel to Boise, Idaho, to take on the Boise State Broncos. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
