The Oregon men’s golf team kicked off its second tournament of the season with a first round score of 300 (12 over par) on Sunday. The score was good for a fourth-place tie one day into the Ping/Golfweek Preview, held at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Oklahoma.
Matching Oregon’s score on Sunday were No. 38 Georgia and UCLA. No. 12 Oklahoma State, the host of the tournament, finished the day with a 288 (even par) and an overall lead. No. 9 Texas A&M followed in second with a 297 (9 over par), while No. 8 Georgia Tech shot a 298 and is seated in third place.
Juniors Eugene Wong and Robbie Ziegler led the way for the Ducks, shooting a 74 (2 over par) and tying for 8th overall. Fellow junior Daniel Miernicki finished one stroke behind and tied for 20th overall, while junior Andrew Vijarro shot a 77 (5 over par) to tie for 34th.
Talor Gooch of Oklahoma State holds the individual lead after shooting a 69 (3 under par) on Sunday. Henrik Norlander of Augusta State was close behind with a 71 (1 under par), while Texas A&M’s Conrad Shindler and Oklahoma State’s Peter Uihlein tied for third with scores of 72 (even par).
It was also a special Sunday for Jordan Russell of Texas A&M, who completed a hole in one on the seventh hole of the course.
