Wandering through the maze that is the Oregon Country Fair, taking in the sights, sounds and smells, one thing struck me in particular; everyone is different–and I mean that in the best way possible. The fairgrounds are oozing with a diverse array of interesting individuals and the more I talked with those I met the more astonished I became. From newcomers to veterans, from young to old, from those in tuxedos to those in birthday suits, the Oregon Country Fair is a phantasmagoric assault on the senses from the moment you walk under the makeshift forest community’s canopy until the time you exit across the sun-soaked field just outside the Veneta city limits. Yet, with all the wonderfully wacky, tastefully weird, and colorful attractions, it is still the people who seem to indicate that the Oregon Country Fair has a little bit of something for everyone.

Oregon volleyball setter August Raskie shines both on and off the court for her athletic prowess and her artistic sense of creativity that makes her who she is. According to Raskie’s 2017 teammate, Maggie Scott, “August is a super athletic player… As a person, she is a really unique character. Cascades Raptor Center trainer Carrie Lorenz brings Taka, a Swainson’s Hawk, out of their enclosure. Taka was taken into human care as an adult at UC Davis’s Veterinary School’s Raptor Center back in 2001. Taka came to the Cascades Raptor Center in April of 2003, joining their ambassador team.
