Two University students traveling toward Willamette Pass on Saturday were killed when the car lost control and hit a tree on Highway 58 approximately 15 miles east of Oakridge.
The driver, who is also a University student, experienced serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
Oregon State Police identified the deceased as Collin Phillip Lamore, of Tigard, Ore., and Ellis Michael Heyer, of Amherst, Mass. Both were 21-years-old. Lamore was a biology major and Heyer was a human physiology major. Lamore was in the front passenger seat, while Heyer rode in the rear seat.
According to Oregon State Police, conditions on Highway 58 were foggy with spots of ice on Saturday.
The driver, Nicholas John Ries, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend by Oakridge Fire Department. According to the University’s directory, Ries, 21, is a chemistry major.
