The Ducks recorded their 18th victory of the season — their highest season win total in 21 years — in Ojai, California Wednesday, a 4-0 sweep of No. 8 Arizona in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament.
The Ducks won the doubles point for the 16th straight match with victories on courts No. 1 and No. 3. On court No. 1, Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarno defeated Will Kneale and Oliver Plaskett in a close 7-6 match. Thomas Laurent and Cormac Clissold handled Shoki Kasahara and Matt Dunn 6-3 on court No. 3.
In singles, on court No. 3, Laurent blew past Jason Jaruvang 6-0 in the first set. His 6-2 victory gave Oregon its second team point.
Oregon’s next point came on court N0. 4, where Amos defeated Trent Brotha 2-0. Amos won the first set easily, 6-1. Brotha fought back in the second, but Amos won 6-4.
To clinch the match for the Ducks, Simon Stevens defeated Will Kneale 2-0. The first set went to a tiebreaker with Stevens edging out Kneale in the first set. Stevens did not waste any momentum in the second set, beating Kneale 6-1 to give Oregon the team victory.
Oregon advances to the second round of the Pac-12 Championships, where they will face No. 4-seed Stanford Thursday at 12 p.m. The Ducks lost to Stanford 4-2 earlier this season.
