The Oregon beach volleyball team lost the two opening matches of its weekend in the Bay Area on Friday.
The Ducks fell 5-0 to No. 16 California and 4-1 to Santa Clara to drop to 1-4 on the season.
Oregon’s lone point of the day came via the duo of Kacey Nady and Liz Brenner against Santa Clara on court No. 1.
Against California (11-7), no Duck pair forced a match to three sets. The Golden Bears cruised to wins on No. 5 and No. 4. On No. 3, Cal clinched the match with a win over Oregon’s duo of Lindsey Vander Weide and Amanda Benson. The Ducks dropped the first set, but trailed by 10-9 in the second before Cal went on an 11-2 rally to clinch the match. Oregon’s pair of Nady and Brenner gave Cal its closest set at No. 1 with a 22-20 loss.
Against the Broncos (7-1), Oregon’s duo of Lauren Page and Maddy Silberger-Franek on No. 4 pushed the match to three sets, but couldn’t knock off their opponents, losing 21-14, 14-21, 18-16. Oregon lost again at the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 2 spots before Brenner and Nady took the No. 1 match from Santa Clara’s Sabrina Clayton and Kristen Mead in three sets.
Oregon returns to action on Saturday with a rematch against Cal. The Ducks will also play Arizona State.
