Despite an early deficit, Oregon women’s tennis bounced back to secure a 5-2 win over Houston in its second road match of the weekend Sunday.
Singles victories earned the Ducks the match as they improved their record to 3-2.
The doubles point put Oregon behind early, but with singles wins from Marlou Kluiving and Christi Woodson, the ladies snapped up the 2-1 lead.
Kluiving and Woodson have proved themselves among the top in singles for the women’s team this year. Both were the only players to win out at the Long Beach Invitational in January.
As singles play continued, Nia Rose took on the No. 34 rank on court No. 1, but was defeated. The loss tied the score at two, making the remaining sets the defining factors for the match.
Freshman Shweta Sangwan gave the Ducks the lead 3-1 before Alyssa Tobita secured the match-winning point on a tie-breaker.
The Ducks ultimately won the match 5-2.
This was the first match of the season in which the Ducks lost the doubles point but won the overall match.
Oregon will have Valentines Day weekend off, but the team will return to the court Friday, Feb. 19 when they take on Oklahoma.
