After suffering a home sweep at the hand of the Washington Huskies (19-4, 9-4) in early October, the Ducks (16-6, 9-4) went up to Seattle Friday night to return the favor with a sweep of their own, defeating the Huskies 3-0 for their first win in Seattle since 2009. With the road victory, the Ducks moved into a tie for first place in the Pac-12.
With the Ducks and Huskies tied at 21, the Ducks put up four straight points to close out the first set and take a 25-21 set victory. Lindsey Vander Weide was off to a nice start with five kills and Jolie Rasmussen added four in the set.
The Ducks were able to take the four-point streak that swung the momentum in their favor and turned it into a dominating second set that included a 14-0 run to set up a 19-4 lead. The Ducks again finished the set strong with a 5-2 run to cap off a dominant 25-8 set win that set the tone for the match. Vander Weide added to her stat line with six kills and Taylor Agost added three kills. The Ducks were able to capitalize on eight turnovers while handing the Huskies their worst set loss of the season.
During the third set, the Huskies used a 4-1 run to take a 19-15 lead when the Ducks took a timeout. The Ducks answered with four out of five points to make it 20-19. The Huskies called timeout to try to stop the Oregon run but instead they continued with an additional 6-2 run to clinch the match. Vander Weide finished the match with 14 kills and Agost totaled 11 kills. Rasmussen tied her career-high with three aces to go with nine kills.
The Ducks will look to keep pace with Washington and UCLA for first place in their next match against the Washington State Cougars in Pullman, Washington Sunday at 11 a.m.
