Oregon’s losing streak of five games is no more.
The Ducks opened a 30-14 halftime lead and held off the visiting Sun Devils for their first Pac-12 win. With the victory, Oregon improves to 3-5 (1-4 Pac-12).
True freshman quarterback Justin Herbert tied the school record for most passing yards (489) in a single game. Oregon quarterback Bill Musgrave also recorded 489 yards in 1989.
Key plays:
— ASU was first to get on the board with a score after halftime. Quarterback Kalen Ballage rushed for a 15-yard touchdown. ASU converted the ensuing two-point converstion to cut Oregon’s lead to 30-22.
— Oregon scored on a 23-yard field goal from Aidan Schneider to extend Oregon’s lead to 33-22.
— ASU’s N’Keal Harry roped in a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole to pull the visitors to within five points, 33-28.
— Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert connected with tight end Johnny Mundt for a 53-yard touchdown. The Ducks led 40-28.
— Kani Benoit fumbled a run attempt midway through the fourth quarter. ASU safety Marcus Bell recovered to set up an ASU touchdown. The visitors trailed by five points 40-35.
— Oregon tacked on back-to-back touchdowns from Tony Brooks-James and Royce Freeman to take a 54-34 lead.
