A 1981 and 1982 All-American while at Oregon, Bev Smith returned to the Ducks as the fifth head coach in program history before the start of the 2001-02 season. Smith immediately led Oregon to a 22-13 record and a WNIT Championship. The Salmon Arm, B.C., native established Oregon records for points scored in a single game (38), season (632) and career (2,063) while with the Ducks. She ranks second all-time in career points behind Alison Lang (2,252 points). From 1978-88, Smith helped lead Team Canada to a fourth-place finish at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. She returned to the National Team from 1992-96 after a two-year stint as head coach at British Columbia (1988-89). Upon completion of her playing career, Smith took over the reins of the Canadian National Team from 1997-01 where she led the program to a 10th-place finish at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She is a member of the Oregon Hall of Fame and Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.
