Arik Armstead is heading to San Francisco, California.
With the 17th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Armstead, a defensive end from Oregon. Armstead is now the second Oregon player to be chosen in the first round of this year’s draft.
Originally from Pleasant Grove High School in Sacramento, California, Armstead played defensive end in the Ducks’ 3-4 base defense and is expected to take a similar role with the 49ers.
Throughout his three-year career, the junior played in 39 total games and amassed 87 career tackles, 10 of which went for a loss. Armstead’s junior year was by far his best when he posted career highs of 46 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Strengths according to NFL.com: “Improved by leaps and bounds from 2013 to 2014. Elite size with ability to add more bulk to his frame. Quick-twitch athlete. Can unlock quickly from blocks. Has above-average tackle radius thanks to his length and quickness.”
Weaknesses according to NFL.com: “Power-based pass rush with very little production to show for it over his time at Oregon. Plays tall as pass rusher and doesn’t use his hands to gain consistent advantages. Will win against an offensive lineman, but doesn’t put himself into position to finish.”
