— After winning five of its final seven games, the Oregon volleyball team was able to sneak into the NCAA Tournament. The Ducks’ late season magic ended on Thursday night when they fell to No. 6 seed Wisconsin 3-1 (18-25, 25-21, 21-25, 19-25) in Madison, Wisc. With the loss, Oregon’s season comes to an end as it finished with a 16-14 overall record. Sophomore Taylor Agost led the Ducks with 13 kills while freshman Lindsey Vander Weide added 12. Playing her final match in the green and yellow, senior Martenne Bettendorf finished the match with 12 kills on a team-high 37 attempts.
— The No. 15 Oregon men’s basketball team has started the season with a perfect 6-0 record, including a win over then-ranked No. 20 Baylor. For the first time on the season, the Ducks will hit the road as Oregon faces UNLV on Friday night before traveling to Hawaii to play Navy on Monday night. The game against UNLV will be a little bit of foreshadowing for Oregon as it will return to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in March for the Pac-12 tournament.
— Oregon women’s basketball star Jillian Alleyne was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watchlist, one of the national awards given to the nation’s best player. The award is voted on by 1,000 sports journalists who cover the NCAA and Alleyne is the lone Pac-12 representative to make the watch list thus far. The Ducks are undefeated at 6-0 and Alleyne is a big part of the reason why as she’s averaging 17 points and 13.2 rebounds per game.
— With the upcoming departure of senior Vernon Adams Jr., the Oregon football team once again finds itself with it quarterback position in flux. The Ducks will now add another search because former offensive coordinator Scott Frost has taken a job to become the University of Central Florida’s new head coach. While the Ducks will search for a new coordinator, most people expect the Ducks to stick to tradition and hire within, putting wide receivers coach Matt Lubick at the forefront. ESPN’s Chantel Jennings wrote a nice piece about Oregon’s process moving forward.
— The Pac-12 recently released it’s all-century team, taking players from all 12 teams. The list was headlined by USC with 25 nominees while Colorado and Oregon State were the only teams who didn’t have a representative. Oregon had three players on the list with Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota at quarterback, Haloti Ngata at defensive tackle and Mel Renfro at cornerback.
— Austin Meek, columnist for the Register Guard, wrote a phenomenal piece about former Oregon basketball player Ray Schafer and his life after basketball. Schafer, who played center for the Ducks from 2003-08, works as manager of the mission’s Life Change program
