Here at the Emerald, we have a 90-year history of archives that we can examine for the sake of institutional knowledge and historical framing. Here’s a glimpse of that Emerald history with a weekly feature, giving you a look into what was happening this day in the past.
We’ll be trying to find stories and headlines inherently relevant to situations that persist today, as well as the occasional oddity we find in our past.

Oregon Supreme Court hears cases at UO
Attorneys argued several cases before the justices at the open proceedings on campus Friday
Calvin Hall | Emerald Archives
Given that spring break used to fall right around where March 14 should be for a large part of our archives, it was difficult to find something to work here. But we happened to find a story from this week six years ago where the Oregon Supreme Court showed up on campus and heard Oregon Supreme Court cases in the Knight Law Center on 15th and Agate. The story goes into depth about the actual facts of the cases, but none of them were especially about the University. It was basically just whatever was on the docket for that day.
We’re just jealous we didn’t get to see a public viewing of Madison High School (Portland) alumnus Paul De Muniz,@@http://courts.oregon.gov/Supreme/BioDeMuniz.page@@ chief justice, and the other justices deliberating cases on campus.
