The Oregon State Board of Higher Education approved all proposed tuition increases for Oregon University System institutions for the 2012-13 academic year in a 9-2 vote Friday afternoon.
The approval means a 6.1 percent increase in tuition for University resident undergraduates and a 3.6 percent tuition increase for non-resident undergraduates. This will raise tuition for resident and non-resident undergraduates by $495 and $945 respectively.
These increases are the latest in a decade of continued tuition and fee increases at Oregon’s public universities due to a lack of state funding for higher education.
Students attending the University next fall will be asked to pay $4,718 more than students were asked to pay ten years ago in 2001-02 , a 115 percent increase in the total cost between tuition and fees.
