The Ducks defeated Seattle (7-0) and Eastern Washington (6-1) on Friday and handled Gonzaga (5-2) on Saturday afternoon, with all matches held in Eugene. Oregon sophomore Alex Rovello cruised to a pair of easy victories on Friday before facing his toughest challenge of the early season on Saturday against Gonzaga’s Alvaro Nazal.
The Portland native took the match in two sets, but not before the duo went to 10-point tiebreaker, 7-5, 7-6. Rovello remains undefeated in the spring with an 8-0 record.
Freshman Daniel Sardu maintained his undefeated record at the No. 4 singles spot. The Hungary native has won all seven of his matches this season, including a timely victory over Gonzaga’s Olivier Jamin, 6-4, 6-3, to keep the momentum in Oregon’s favor. @@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=205382500@@
Sophomore Robin Cambier is undefeated in No. 2 singles play as well, matching Rovello’s 8-0 clip this spring. The Cambier-Rovello duo has teamed up to win all seven of its No. 1 doubles matches in 2012, while Sardu and junior Aaron Clissold hold a 5-1 record playing primarily in the No. 2 doubles spot.
The Oregon men will be back in action on Friday when they kick off Pac-12 play with a home match against Washington at 5 p.m. A nonconference match with UC Irvine is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday.
