University environmental law professor Svitlana Kravchenko@@http://uoregon.edu/findpeople/person/Svitlana*Kravchenko@@ passed away of a heart attack on Friday, according to a press release from the University. She was 62.
Kravchenko was internationally renowned in the environmental law community, earning the prestigious International Union for Conservation of Nature Academy of Environmental Law@@http://www.iucnael.org/en/iucnaelorg-latest-news/1-general-news/179-iucn-academy-honoured-with-prestigious-aba-award-for-distinguished-achievement-in-environmental-law-and-policy.html@@ Senior Scholarship Prize last summer. During her brief stay at a hospital, she received more than 300 messages offering support and prayers from more than 60 countries.
“Professor Kravchenko accomplished more on the international stage than perhaps anyone in the school of law’s 128-year history,” University Law Dean Michael Moffitt said in a press release. “She enjoyed international acclaim for her scholarship and her advocacy, which improved our school, our state and our world. I am deeply saddened by this loss.”
