Cheers erupted in the EMU’s fishbowl Tuesday night as students watched news networks announce President Barack Obama’s re-election in the 2012 presidential race. Obama received 303 of the nation’s electoral votes, surpassing Governor Mitt Romney’s 206 as well as the 270 needed to win the election.
Obama’s victory was projected after polls closed for the west coast and Washington, Oregon and California were projected blue. Previously, Romney had held a slight lead in electoral votes.
Obama won 50 percent of the popular, while Mitt Romney had 48 percent, according to The New York Times.
