$30 million development to be auctioned at much lower price
Smith Rock’s 1,700 acre gated community, Ranch at the Canyons, a $30 million property will be auctioned on Nov. 14 after the economy took its toll on the area. The Oregonian reports that it could go for a little as $2.3 million, leaving locals worried about the future of the property.
Community members don’t feel they will be affected by the purchase of the property. In fact, when Canyons was originally proposed in ’90s, many community members were heavily against the building. @@checked@@
Final defendant charged with murder of beauty salon owner
Jason Jay Jaynes, 32, has been charged with attempted aggravated murder and conspiracy in the death of Deborah Benton, a Gladstone salon owner. Jaynes had been working with his mother, Susan Ellen Campbell and former Gladstone police Sgt. Lynn Benton on the murder, according to The Oregonian.
Bail for Jaynes has been set for $1 million and is being held in the Clackamas County Jail. Campbell has made a deal to testify against her son and Benton in exchange for a 15 year sentence. Benton was killed in her salon on May 28, 2011. @@checked@@
Marion County labor contract agreement reached
After nearly two months of contract discussions the Marion County Board of Commissioners and Marion County Employees Association have agreed on a contract after compromises from both sides, the Statesman Journal reports.
The new contract, which will go into effect Nov. 21, creates more flexible hours and leaves room for adjustments if heath care costs increase too much in 2014. It’s currently still a tentative agreement, but according to the Marion County spokesperson, both sides are content with the current revisions. @@checked@@
Cornelius police chief on administrative leave pending internal investigation
Four police officers brought allegations against Paul Rubenstein, the current Cornelius Police Chief, for “ongoing corruption” according to The Oregonian. Rubenstein, along with the Assistant Chief Joe Noffsinger, has been accused of covering up officer misconduct and creating a hostile work environment.
An interim chief is yet to be announced, however the investigation could last several weeks. @@checked@@
