The EMU House Committee voted today to keep the EMU open until 3 a.m. during Finals Week this fall.
With enrollment growing over the years, finding a place to study on campus has become harder. With this new plan in place, the EMU will hire four, new student night monitors who will keep the building open until 3 a.m. for seven straight days — Wednesday of Dead Week until Tuesday of Finals Week.
ASUO academic director Harlan Mechling is pleased with the vote and glad students will have more options when studying.
“As a senior, I’ve seen the Knight Library fill up every year,” Mechling said. “The hope is that by opening the EMU, we will facilitate a healthy environment to study. People who can’t study in the dorms, the library or at home will now have more options around campus.”
If this plan is well accepted by students, it may continue into the future and could expand to include midterms.
