Twitter, once easy to write off as a fad, has become a social media staple. With that status has come a wide variety of accounts geared to any number of things, including experimental humor. Here’s a few examples of the best and strangest of what Twitter has to offer:
@Dogsdoingthings: At the intersection of funny animal videos and existential dread lies Dogs Doing Things, a collection of short, descriptive phrases where dogs do things. Very colorful and depressing things. Though something of an acquired taste, DDT is absolutely singular in its vision.
Sample tweet: Dogs observing as the Earth stops spinning and drifts sadly away through space, “There goes Honey Boo Boo.”
@Fireland: Fireland is a persona of comedy writer Joshua Allen, and boy is it a scary one. Fireland is a dart aimed directly at the grossest trends in American culture, every once in a while bordering on sociopathy. But what makes Fireland work is tight, punchy writing that, if anything, benefits from the 140 character limit. (Frequently NSFW)
Sample tweet: I strutted into Starbucks and the barista sighed and started making my Miracle Whip latte before I even said anything! Felt pretty cool.
@Horse_ebooks: Somewhere between magnetic fridge poetry and spam emails comes Horse ebooks. Unlike the other twitter accounts mentioned, this is actually just a computer-operated spam bot with a cult following. It’s pretty spectacular when scattered, incomplete gibberish gives way to the profound.
Sample tweet: Everything happens so much
