They say idle hands are the devil’s tools, and with a matchup with the Sun Devils looming this Thursday, that’s more than pertinent to Oregon football. But idleness also did the Ducks no favors in the BCS standings.
Coming off their bye week, Oregon was jumped by Florida in the season’s first computerized BCS rankings, leaving the Ducks No. 3 behind the Gators and fellow SEC powerhouse No. 1 Alabama. Kansas State and Notre Dame round out the top five.
The announcement came one day after Florida (6-0) thrashed Vanderbilt 31-17. They’ll face a revenge-minded South Carolina this Saturday. The Gamecocks, seventh in the BCS poll, just dropped a thriller to LSU (who’s sixth in the BCS) on Saturday, and LSU lost to Florida earlier in the year. Confused? The SEC tic-tac-toe will likely continue all the way to the conference’s title game, which will likely decide one-half of the teams playing in the national championship.
But as it is now, if the title game was tomorrow, Oregon wouldn’t be in it.
