If the raucous, party-like atmosphere is a bit too much to handle on a Friday evening, a jaunt to downtown Eugene will provide casual yet enticing venues sure to provide ample entertainment.
Located in the historic Whiteaker neighborhood, Sam Bond’s Garage is a prime example of a laid-back bar that can still provide an energetic atmosphere. Live music (Irish jams on Sundays, Bluegrass on Tuesdays) attracts a wide variety of demographics that give the bar a very local feel.
Davis Lounge is another suitable live music venue — jazz musicians play sets frequently. With free wifi, the lounge is an excellent spot to grab a cold one and do some homework.
If one were searching for a bit of a secluded spot to enjoy libations, the Oak Street Speakeasy is the obvious answer. The basement bar’s karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays is ever-popular, as are the dubstep DJs who bring wobbles and bass to the joint every third Wednesday of the month.
Perhaps the party atmosphere is desired, but not fulfilled by campus bars. Located on Broadway, John Henry’s is the staple of lively crowds. The dance floor fills on the weekends and is supported by live DJs as well. Across the street, John Henry’s is complemented by Cowfish – commonly known as a gay and lesbian–friendly dance club. Complete with a massive aquarium, the club is open to all, and comes to life on the weekends.
