Pregame warmups
- Both Rodriguez and Kelly are seen as gurus of the modern spread offense. Rodriguez in particular is often seen one of the coaches who brought the spread to major college football, including by former Duck head coach Mike Bellotti. “He’s certainly one of the guys that has popularized it and made it palatable at the BCS level,” Bellotti said.
- Oregon (54 points per game) and Arizona (46.3 points per game) are the two highest scoring offenses in the Pac-12, while the Ducks 596.3 yards per game and Arizona’s average of 604.7 are second and third in the conference in total offense going into the week.
- Arizona’s leading tackler has the same name as one of the Ducks trying to keep him out of the backfield, albeit spelled a different way. For Arizona, it’s linebacker Jake Fischer, and for the Ducks it’s offensive tackle Jake Fisher.
- The Ducks will be wearing chrome helmets, green jerseys and black pants.

- Wide receiver Josh Huff is listed as a starter on the Ducks two-deep, but the Oregonian is reporting that Huff did not participate in practice this week and thus is unlikely to play.
Oregon’s Josh Huff did not practice this week, I’m told, which almost certainly means he won’t play again today: oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ss…

Keep your eye on
- The scoreboard. With both squads averaging in the neighborhood of 50 points per game, Autzen’s scoreboard operator likely has a busy day on his hands.
- Matt Scott. The Wildcat quarterback will likely break the 1,000 yard mark on his first completion of the game (he enters with 995 passing yards through just three games) but if given the opportunity he won’t be afraid to call his own number. He has 190 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the season, both second on the team behind Ka’Deem Carey.
First quarter
A risky decision by Chip Kelly to go for a fourth down conversion from inside the Ducks 40 yard line didn’t pay off, but it didn’t come back to haunt the Ducks as Arizona’s field goal attempt was over before it got started after the snap hit the holder in the facemask…
Early miscues continuing for both teams as the Ducks and Wildcats trade turnovers on their second possessions…
After an interception from Ifo Ekpre Olomu the Ducks offense found it’s stride driving 88 yards in 10 plays. Marcus Mariota found Daryle Hawkins in the middle of the field for the 17 yard touchdown pass to give the Ducks a 7-0 lead with 5:42 left in the first quarter.
Ekpre Olomu came up big for the Ducks again on Arizona’s next possession with a key pass break up in the endzone that brought up a fourth and goal for the Wildcats. Arizona opted to keep their offense on the field and were once again held scoreless in the redzone for the third straight series.
Second quarter
After a De’Anthony Thomas fumble gave Arizona the ball on the right side of the field the Wildcats once again drove into the red zone only to be held scoreless again after Wade Keliikipi got a hand on a field goal attempt.
Oregon takes a 10-0 lead on a Rob Beard field goal after a grueling 17-play, 61 yard drive that featured carries from Bryan Bennett and Colt Lyerla as well as the usual suspects of Barner and Thomas.
Another long drive results in points for the Ducks but once again the Ducks kept out of the endzone. Beard’s second field goal of the game gives the Ducks a 13-0 lead with less than a minute remaining in the first half.
Third quarter
After the Ducks and Wildcats traded punts at the start of the second half leading to an explosive punt return for Thomas and, finally, the quick strike offense Oregon has come to expect. Colt Lyerla finished off the relatively short drive with a two yard touchdown run and Rob Beard added a two point conversion to give the Ducks a 21-0 lead.
Another red zone stop by the Ducks–their fifth of the game–leads to another Oregon touchdown and the first big play of the game, a 55 yard pass from Mariota to Bralon Addison giving the Ducks a 28-0 lead with 1:01 left in the third.
Fourth quarter
Ifo Ekpre Olomu stepped in front of a pass right in front of the Ducks bench and took it 54 yards for the score to give the Ducks a five touchdown lead with 14:08 left in the game.
Another pick-six, this one 29 yards out by Troy Hill, gives the Ducks an insurmountable 49-0 lead late in the fourth.
