Former ASUO president Ben Eckstein talks about student debt
As a part of an ongoing series about student debt, former ASUO president Ben Eckstein and student Manny Garcia@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/ws-directory-client/directory.jsp@@ chatted with The Register-Guard about their experiences on the University’s 12-member Tuition and Fee Advisory Board@@http://budgetmodel.uoregon.edu/content/tuition-and-fee-advisory-board@@. Both Eckstein and Garcia were strongly against a discussed 6 percent tuition increase for undergraduate students.
Eckstein and Garcia are two of many student faces that have been a part of this series.
Missing Eugene man found safely in Junction City
Sean Wilhelm, a 20-year-old developmentally disabled man who had been missing since Sunday afternoon, was found safely in Junction City Monday afternoon, according to KVAL. After being last seen in the Santa Clara neighborhood, the Wilhelm family suspected he would attempt to return to Junction City, from which they had recently moved.
Police have not yet determined where Wilhelm spent the night.
County election party to be permanently moved to Springfield
After a 2010 decision by Willamalane Park and Recreation District@@http://www.willamalane.org/@@ to move its election night party to Springfield — an event that had been traditionally held at the Lane County fairgrounds — officials told The Register-Guard announced they would like to make it a permanent change.
The new location will be at the Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation@@http://www.willamalane.org/pages/wc/index.shtml@@, a larger venue that should help accommodate the increasing numbers of crowds that attend these parties. Organizers hope there will be a showing of voters from all candidates.
EWEB planning to renovate along waterfront
In Monday night’s City Council meeting, the EWEB received permission to redevelop their property along the waterfront, The Register-Guard reported. Although the overall plan was first approved in 2010, they are beginning the legal processes behind the construction.
It’s a part of their property on East 4th Avenue, that is currently unused, that developers are hoping to build on. However, for the moment they are undecided as to what would be the best option to fill the space.
Seven arrested after search for wanted man
John Gabris, a wanted felon, was found in a Springfield home along with other men who had outstanding warrants in their name, KEZI reported. There were also four women in the house who were arrested on charges of hindering the investigation and endangering minors.
