University of Oregon welcomes record freshman class
With the addition of 4,400 new freshmen students this fall, the UO’s total student population will be close to 25,000 students, according to the UO Office of Communications.
The incoming class will start with a grade point average between 3.57 and 3.58 and are averaging 15.3 credits a term, which is higher than the average undergraduate credit load of 15.
Lane Community College expects commuter congestion
LCC has released tips for students who will be commuting to its main campus. Students are urged to seek alternative modes of transportation including bus travel or bike-riding.
Those who will be driving are advised to avoid exit 189 on Interstate 5, which becomes highly congested throughout peak travel times during the day.
UO debate team opens season in Bellevue, Wa.
The UO debate team began their 2012-13 campaign last weekend in Bellevue, Wa, according to UO Debate. Senior speaker Shelby Smith@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/ws-directory-client/directory.jsp@@ placed third place in the open division, while the “parli” debate team duo of Katherine Bergus@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/ws-directory-client/directory.jsp@@ and Megan Gaffney@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/ws-directory-client/directory.jsp@@ finished fifth as a team in their event.
The team will venture south to Berkeley, Calif. next week to participate in the Golden Gate Invitational.@@http://www.forensicstournament.net/GGI2012/12@@
Eugene Police Department releases party-patrol data
Following the first weekend with students returning, EPD dealt with a several dozen violations between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Friday and Saturday evenings. The following are violations reportedly committed by University students:
- Six open-container violations
- 19 minors-in-possession
- One account of interfering with police
- Two accounts of providing false information
- Six accounts of trespassing
- Seven accounts of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana
- Five noise violations
