It’s safe to say that most University students haven’t heard of the Worrynauts. When the band released their first album, “Five Years EP,” in June, they only made about a dozen copies. The band’s August follow-up, “Three People In A Basement With Toys EP,” only had one copy, which they auctioned off at a show.
“They’re like an experimental minimalistic pop band,” said University student Bryson Hansen, the UO Cultural Forum’s regional music coordinator. “They have an interesting pop sense, they’re really minimal, they have a good sense of humor and personality in the band.”
Tonight, the Cultural Forum will present the Worrynauts, as well as local rock band The Blast Majesty, in the EMU’s Ben Linder Room.
According to The Blast Majesty’s Myspace page, the band describes itself as rock and hyphy, a slang term for hyperactive which UrbanDictionary.com defines as the San Francisco Bay Area version of ‘crunk.’ Members Peter the Great, Chris Laser, Tambourine Girl and the Golden Fleece make up the Worrynauts, which was formed last year in Salem.
“I just really want to expose bands from Salem in Eugene because there’s an entire circuit of bands up there that don’t get a lot of exposure,” he said.
The concert will take place from 8 to 11 p.m., will include a free taco bar.
“It’s hard to promote bands people haven’t heard of as headlining acts,” said Hansen, who thinks tacos are a good way to lure students. “I’m just trying to turn people on to see the event.”
