A software glitch caused a university in Texas to refund 183 students approximately $300 apiece when they registered for classes. The glitch also allowed some students to register for classes at $50 per credit instead of the actual rate of $150.
University of Oregon uses the same software to register students as the Texas school, Midwestern State University, but administrators don’t anticipate similar problems when University of Oregon students register.
“The issue (at Midwestern State) is that the university is assessing a fee to students repeating a class for the third time,” University Director of Business Affairs Kelly Wolf said. “We have no such fee at the University of Oregon.”
Midwestern State is asking students to return the money they were accidentally refunded. As it happens, several students have already spent the $300.
