The student body is expected to lose several sections of the first balcony in McArthur Court for next year’s basketball season partly because basketball tickets aren’t being collected by students. Only one game has sold out this year, Associate Athletic Director Steve McBride said.
The Athletic Department Finance Committee is currently negotiating with the Athletics Department the number of tickets and location of seats to reserve for students next year. It will hold its final meeting with McBride today.
Every enrolled student pays $191 per term in incidental fees, part of which are used to purchase tickets for football and men’s basketball games.
The Student Senate accepted a budget increase of 3.48 percent for Athletics Department negotiations before winter break, so both the Athletics Department and the ADFC have been trying to make “a good faith effort” to keep the same number of seats that were negotiated last year. Currently, students pay for 1,932 seats, which they receive at 50 percent of the fair market value price.
McBride said that if the negotiations were closer to a 7 percent increase over what was negotiated last year, “maintaining the status quo” would have been easier.
The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. today in the EMU Alsea Room.
Decrease in student ticket pick-up may lead to fewer available seats
