As an active student at the University, I would like to voice my support for the future purchase and distribution of cage-free eggs to our eating/catering facilities. I understand that this process is more expensive and, by contemporary society’s definition, less “efficient;” however, I think it’s highly important to respect the rights and living conditions of all things. Eugene has a legendary reputation for embracing activism and alternative life styles, and as a member of this community and university, I wouldn’t mind paying extra for eggs that come from non-abused animals living in sanitary conditions. Universities nationwide (including several Ivy Leaguers) have adopted cage-free eggs in to their dinning halls and I sincerely hope the University can join them.
